Macmillan Education Namibia donates €1,000.00 to S.P.E.S. Charity!

As part of Springer Nature's Progress in Action campaign, Macmillan Education Namibia remains committed to supporting our local communities. 

Earlier this week, we donated the amount of €1,000.00 to S.P.E.S. Charity, which serves the less fortunate children and youth in our country by helping them step out of poverty through encouragement, education and support.

S.P.E.S. Charity works with 15 informal pre-schools in marginalised areas of Windhoek, providing training for preschool teachers, stationery and teaching aids as well as daily meals and emotional support to disadvantaged children. 

The Charity aims to empower the children by creating sustainable change for the future without over-reliance on others. The donated funds will be used to support the Charity's ongoing initiatives.

Welcoming New Energy: A Bright Start to 2026 at Macmillan Education Namibia

Back‑to‑school season is always a busy time at Macmillan Education Namibia, and this year has been no different. Now that the dust has settled on book packing and deliveries to regional offices, we’ve finally had a moment to look back on the start of the year and reflect on what lies ahead.

In February, we were delighted to welcome a new face to the Macmillan Team. Liina Nandago has joined us as our new Sales and Marketing Representative. She comes with a strong network within the education sector and brings an energetic, goal‑driven approach that aligns perfectly with our plans for the year.

Looking ahead, our focus is on strengthening sustainable operations, increasing brand visibility and awareness, and deepening our support to schools. This includes more regular school visits, engagement with educators, and contributing to the sector through sponsorship of events and prize-giving ceremonies.

Of course, we’ve also taken a moment to nurture team spirit. Our early Valentine’s Day celebration, complete with themed refreshments and good humour, added a cheerful touch to the month and reminded us of the value of connection in our daily work.

MEN donates €1,000.00 to Side by Side Early Intervention Centre

Springer Nature’s Charitable Giving Initiative is a yearly commitment to supporting charitable efforts in the local communities where we operate.

This year, Macmillan Education Namibia has donated the amount of €1,000.00 to the Side by Side Early Intervention Centre. 

Situated in the heart of Goreangab, Side By Side is a registered NGO, established to provide comprehensive early intervention services to meet the unique needs of children with disabilities and to work with their families to create a holistic support system. In 2024, Side by Side helped over 700 children through their various development activities and programmes.

The donated funds will be used to support the Side by Side Daycare Centre, which offers rehabilitation services and healthy breakfast to 24 children from Monday to Friday, as well as to facilitate home visits and special school readiness program for children preparing to enter special needs school or mainstream school.

Introducing Solid Foundations Agricultural Science for Junior Secondary Phase!

Macmillan Education Namibia and Namibia Publishing House are delighted to introduce the highly anticipated, approved by NIED Solid Foundations Agricultural Science Grades 8 and 9 course. As part of our Solid Foundations Agricultural Science series for the Secondary Phase, this exciting new course is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Agricultural Science Syllabus for the Junior Secondary Phase, updated by NIED for implementation in 2025 and 2026.

Macmillan Education Namibia and Namibia Publishing House are pleased to announce our latest approved by NIED materials for the Junior Primary Phase: Solid Foundations Nongonona Elaka Grades 1–3 Learner’s Books, Readers and Teacher’s Guides.

Written by the language specialists and devoted teachers, Meme Rachel Nandjembo and Meme Vilima Haukongo, the Solid Foundations Nongonona Elaka Grades 1–3 course is based on the Oshikwanyama First Language Syllabus and completes our grammar series for Oshikwanyama First Language, now available from Grade 1 to Grade 12.

The attractive materials encourage learners to become active communicators by participating in a range of stimulating activities designed to develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking in Oshikwanyama. The textbooks support a learner-centred approach and reflect Namibia’s diverse cultural heritage in a positive manner.

NPH and MEN Team clean up Auasblick Mountain

A popular hiking and boot camping spot in Windhoek, Auasblick Mountain has been marred by the amount of rubbish those who climb it leave behind. Trapped by the thick bush, the rubbish (plastic and glass bottles, cool drink cans, paper and foil wrappers, etc.) is often inaccessible to City of Windhoek cleaning teams to collect, posing a risk to the abundant wildlife and looking unsightly.

As part of Springer Nature's annual Sustainable Development Goals Impact Festival, Namibia Publishing House and Macmillan Education Namibia Team have come together to participate in an SDG-themed clean-up event at the Auasblick Mountain.

Armed with rubber gloves, collecting sticks and refuse bags, our team of 11 spent the Friday morning, 27 September, scouring the mountain, collecting all the rubbish we could find, often at the cost of personal injury. 😬😏😣 

Fearless against the invader bush, defying thorns and sneaky branches, and motivated by our very own SDG Games Mascot, the team competed with each other on who can collect the most rubbish, collectively filling 30 refuse bags.

We proudly delivered the load at the Kleine Kuppe Refuse Site for further processing, hoping we had made a visible impact and that the Auasblick Mountain will stay clean for some time.

We would like to thank Rent-a-Drum for providing us with the recycling bags for this clean-up operation. At the same time, we implore the public to use the recreational spots such as the Auasblick Mountain responsibly, not littering the site.

Namibia Publishing House and Macmillan Education Namibia are pleased to introduce the Solid Foundations Social Studies series for Senior Primary Phase. As part of the Springer Nature’s Charitable Giving initiative, Namibia Publishing House donated the amount of €1,000.00 to S.P.E.S. Charity (Step out of Poverty through Education, Encouragement and Support) earlier this month. The S.P.E.S. Charity was established for the main purpose of serving the less fortunate children and youth in our country, by helping them step out of poverty through education, encouragement and support. The charity works with 15 informal preschools situated in the poorer areas of Windhoek, impacting about 1 100 children. The donated funds will be used to provide hygiene and cleaning materials, stationary and educational materials and nutritious food to meet the children’s basic needs.

As part of the "180 years of Macmillan" celebration, Namibia Publishing House has donated some of our locally authored publications, along with other reading materials, to the Public Library in Windhoek. The books will be distributed to Public Libraries across the country to support communities with local content.

Earlier last month, Namibia Publishing House, a subsidiary of Macmillan Education Namibia, celebrated 180 years of Macmillan. Our Namibian team is proud to have been part of the Macmillan Education Group for over four decades. Hot off the press: Solid Foundations English Second Language Grades 1 to 3 Learner's Books, Teacher's Guides with CDs, and Readers are now available!

Namibia Publishing House is pleased to announce that our Solid Foundations series of approved materials for English Second Language now includes a complete course for Junior Primary Phase (Grades 1-3). The approved Learner's Books, Teacher's Guides with CDs, and Readers are listed on the Government Catalogue for Junior Primary and can be ordered through the usual procurement channels or directly from NPH.

Written by language experts: Jenny Gardner, Hayley Glass and Elise Varga, the Learners' Books and Readers are beautifully illustrated, engaging and learner-centred, making teaching key language skills fun.

Great care has been taken to integrate the School Readiness/Preparatory Programme and grammar in an informal way, facilitate correct pronunciation of the English sounds, and steadily develop learners' reading skills throughout each year.

The course fully meets the requirements of the English Second Language Syllabus for Junior Primary and offers strong support to teachers working with multi-ability classes and learners with special needs or learning difficulties. 

The Solid Foundations English Second Language course for Grades 1-3, with all its components used consistently (as guided in the Teacher's Guides), will help teachers prepare learners to confidently use English as the medium of instruction in the Senior Primary Phase.

Macmillan Education Southern Africa first ExCo meeting for 2023 was hosted by Namibia Publishing House last week. After some busy few days, the Team enjoyed a trip to the Namibian Coast for some much-needed break. Thank you all for making the trip to visit The Land of the Brave✊

It has been another year of coping with the effects of the pandemic that has seriously affected our lives and the economy. Education is one of the industries that have suffered most and are still struggling to recover. 

Some schools, such as John /Awaseb Primary School in Mondesa, Swakopmund, have not received any textbooks since they opened in 2020. Earlier this month, NPH sent a donation of most needed educational materials to the school via Swakop Bookshop. The books were handed over by Mr Joachim von Wietersheim.

NPH also responded to the need for more educational materials by the Auala ELCIN Library and Archives in Oniipa. The library, named after the late Bishop Dr Leonard Nangolo Auala, who was the first Namibian bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN), serves the learners, students and teachers from the Oniipa and Onandjokwe communities that surround it. The donation was humbly received by Bishop Auala's son, Councillor Joseph Auala.

NPH at the National Conference on Education - 2022

It has been over 10 years since the last National Conference on Education in 2011, so this year's conference was highly anticipated. The second National Conference on Education took place from 2 to 5 August 2022 under the theme: Transforming education in the context of global challenges towards inclusion and quality: re-imagining 2023 and beyond.

Members of Parliament, Ministry of Education staff from 14 regions, officials of other ministries (including the Prime Minister and the Vice-President), university staff, representatives of the private sector, civil society, learners and development agencies were in attendance.

After the official opening, the attendees broke into smaller groups to discuss various issues affecting education in the country today, review recommendations of the 2011 National Conference and develop a number of programmes that would transform the education system to better cater for the needs of a Namibian child in 2023 and beyond.

Namibia Publishing House took this opportunity to showcase our latest publications and discuss with the teachers the impact the past two years had on the learners and their performance on the NSSCO and NSSCAS examinations.

We are very pleased to announce that our Solid Foundations textbook for Oshikwanyama First Language for Grade 12 NSSCAS has arrived and is now available for sale.

The Solid Foundations Nongonona Elaka Grade 12 Lerner’s Book for NSSCAS, with its supporting Teacher’s Guide, scored 94.6% on the NIED evaluators’ criteria, putting it in first place on the approved list of textbooks for Oshikwanyama First Language for NSSCAS.

Our materials were developed by the experts in Oshikwanyama First language who have experience in teaching at high level and received Cambridge training on the NSSCAS syllabus and examination.

We would like to thank Meme Vilima Ngonyofi Haukongo and Dr Edward Tangeni Shikesho for the job well done in guiding the path for Grade 12 teachers to successfully implement the new curriculum for Oshikwanyama First Language Advanced Subsidiary level.

The results of the NSSCAS Gap Submissions are finally out and NPH is on top again! 

We are pleased to introduce our newly approved textbooks for Oshikwanyama First Language and Oshindonga First Language for Grade 12 AS level:
