Namibian Children’s Book Forum Holds 15th Literary Awards
Since its establishment in 1988, the Namibian Children's Book Forum annually organised Namibian Children's Book Awards to promote children's literature in all Namibian languages. It's been 15 years since the last literary awards were held by NCBF in 2003, and we at NPH and Macmillan Education Namibia are extremely happy to see that the tradition of the awards has been revived by the Forum this year. With 2018 being NCBF's 30th year of operation, 15th Namibian Children's Book Awards were held on 21 November at the Theatre School, College of the Arts, in Windhoek.
Namibia Publishing House was among the invited guests and to our great surprise we were awarded 22 Certificates of Recognition in various categories from Drama and Prose to Readers for books published in the Namibian languages: Otjihereo, Rumanyo, Oshindonga, Osahikwanyama, Khoekhoegowab, Ju|'hoansi, Silozi and Thimbukushu, as well as in Afrikaans and English.
We feel greatly honoured to be recognised for the work we have been doing since our company was first established and look forward to continue publishing Namibian literature for the benefit of our learners.

Our work this year
As the year slowly draws to a close, it is time to reflect on the work our NPH and Macmillan Education Namibia Team have done in 2018.
1. We worked hard to develop high quality materials for the Senior Secondary Phase: the results are 8 approved Solid Foundations Grades 10 and 11 titles for NSSCO out of 11 submitted! That is a great success for us all!
2. We also travelled across all regions to promote these newly approved titles, distributing promotional copies to Senior Secondary Schools and attending several workshops for the new curriculum implementation.
3. We published a Second Edition of the highly popular Le Roux and Müller's Field Guide to the Trees & Shrubs of Namibia, launched in July.
It has been a difficult year for the Namibian economy, with budget cuts affecting education most. With that, we would like to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture for continuously relying on Namibia Publishing House and Macmillan Education Namibia for provision of quality affordable materials for our learners and teachers. We look forward to your continued support in 2019!

- Our textbooks are both learner-friendly and accessible.
- They include numerous activities, summaries, exam practice and exam focus sections to help learners study regularly, practice the concepts taught and get a glimpse into what the exam will look like.
- They enable teachers to develop learners' higher cognitive skills of analysis, interpretation and evaluation, which are important during the examination.
Our dedicated team of Sales Representatives is currently visiting Senior Secondary Schools all over the country, distributing promotional materials.

Le Roux and Müller's Field Guide to the Trees & Shrubs of Namibia Second Edition Is Officially Launched!
Last Saturday at Namibia Scientific Society, Namibia Publishing House and Macmillan Education Namibia launched the Second Edition of Le Roux and Müller's Field Guide to the Trees & Shrubs of Namibia. It was a great occasion for all tree lovers, amateur and professional botanists and flora enthusiasts in general to come together and celebrate the release of the Second Edition of this very popular "botanical Bible".
After opening remarks by Freddy Nafuka (NPH), the floor was given to the publisher, Patrycja Chyla-Malima. Then, Esmerialda Strauss from the National Botanical Research Institute shared a few words on her experience with the first edition of the field guide.
Since only one author, Barbara Curtis, was in the country at the time of the launch, a speech from Piet le Roux and a video message from Coleen Mannheimer were shared with the gathered audience. Barbara then, took us through the changes made, highlighting the advantages of the Second Edition.

2018 and counting ...
Mr Davids in his signature brooding pose |
The past 6 months have been extremely busy for us here at NPH as we are in the midst of developing new materials for Grades 10-11 learners for submission in May this year.
We have been lucky to have a new member join our team of publishers, Mr Laurentius Davids, who although retired now from his position at NIED as a Chief Education Officer for African Languages, feels young at heart and ready to contribute to education this time as a publisher.
We welcome you wholeheartedly, Kaikhoeb! (Grandpa in Khoekhoegowab)
End of the year also brought a much needed break to all of us at the NPH team and an opportunity to kick back and enjoy!
We are now re-energised
and ready to face
the year head-on!
