1 NPH Edublog: 2015

Wednesday 9 December 2015

What a year it has been!

Time flies when you are in the publishing business. One minute you are preparing books for submission, and the next you are packing them for delivery to schools! Now that the year is nearly over, Namibia Publishing House would like to thank all our partners in education, especially our esteemed Authors, Teachers, Principals and Head of Departments who took the time to attend the launches of our approved and proving very successful SOLID FOUNDATIONS series for Junior and Senior Primary Phase that we organised across the country.

Our NPH Team enjoying the atmosphere
of the lodge
Last week, our staff enjoyed a long awaited year-end function. It was a summer-themed event held at River Crossing Lodge, a scenic oasis of peace located 3 km outside of Windhoek. With the staff in their summer colours and décor to match, the function became a colourful, fun-filled afternoon. All in all, it was a great success, with the staff enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and the opportunity to reflect on the year’s achievements.

Now we are back in the office, still working, but we look forward to the new school year with hope and enthusiasm, wishing all our NPH family a very happy, prosperous and safe year 2016!

NPH launches the Solid Foundations materials for Senior Primary throughout the country!

It's been almost a month since our marketing drive through Namibia and launches of our approved Solid Foundations series of textbooks for Senior Primary Phase. It was a great turnout from the teachers in Omusati and Oshana Regions as we launched the NPH materials in Outapi, Oshakati and Ondangwa!

Our team of publishers have left their desks in Windhoek to travel to the regions, visit schools and promote our newly approved materials. They've experienced a very warm welcome and great feedback on our books from local educators.

They were also impressed by how well behaved learners are, especially in the remote areas of the country. This was most encouraging and inspiring. We feel that as partners in education, together we are truly building our nation on SOLID FOUNDATIONS!

NPH visits Educational Regional Directorates throughout the country!

What a week that was! More than 4,000 km were covered when NPH management travelled to meet with Educational Regional Directors across Namibia to introduce  our new General Manager, Mr Deon de Waal. The visits served as a platform for NPH to discuss how we can work together to improve on the service delivery and logistics and strengthen good communication.

The trip was a great success, and we would like to thank the Directors and the staff at the Educational Regional Offices for their warm welcome. It was exciting for us to travel to the regions and discuss the various issues and challenges that the regions are currently facing in education. NPH is committed to work with all partners to improve the standards of education in our country.

NPH also made a stop at the recently opened Oshana Regional Library.

A Day Out of the Office

Friday, 29 May 2015, NPH and Macmillan Team had the pleasure of spending the day at the beautiful Daan Viljoen Game Reserve. The day started with the Training on Harassment at Workplace  with the Head of HR, Ms Portia Sefiti, who made her second trip to Namibia to make this important presentation, and continued with a planning and strategising session with our new General Manager, Mr Deon de Waal.

After all the work, there was time for some fun. The game drive was the highlight of the day, with zebras, giraffes and wildebeest spotted in the reserve happily grazing on the winter foliage.

The team had a great time and the whole experience left us energised and ready to face the changes ahead.

NPH office to be the first to complete the Harassment at Workplace training!

Many thanks to Portia Sefiti, our new Head of HR for Southern Africa at Macmillan, for opening our eyes on the important topic of Harassment at Workplace during the training yesterday.

We were all amazed at how seemingly innocent comments or actions can be perceived as harassment. We feel better knowing what we can do to prevent any such issues from arising here at NPH.

Namibia Publishing House Welcomes a New GM!

It was a hectic summer here at NPH, with the untimely death of our Financial Director, Ms Cecilia Blom, the resignation of the Corporate Managing Director, Mr Peter Reiner, and the March submissions for Senior Primary.

We have made it through all the changes that these circumstances brought us, and feel stronger for it. Despite the recent transition, our team remained committed to the NPH striving to produce and deliver quality educational materials to Namibian schools. We are proud to abide by our motto of building our nation on solid foundations.

NPH New Managing Director, Mr Deon de Waal
NPH New General Manager, Mr Deon de Waal
Now, that the dust of submissions has settled, we are  pleased to welcome among our midst our new General Manager, Mr Deon de Waal.

Mr De Waal has over 20 years experience in business management in South Africa and Namibia. We feel confident that under his leadership we will be able to continue the established legacy of quality and value. We wish him all the best in his endeavours and give him our full support.

Honourable Minister, Saara Kuugungelwa-Amadhila, visits NPH as a client

Namibia Publishing House staff had to do a double take this morning when the Minister of Finance suddenly walked through our doors to purchase textbooks for the Junior Primary Phase. We could not resist taking a photo with the Minister, who very kindly obliged.
